Taurine is found in particularly high concentrations in certain tissues of the body ex. in the heart wall muscles,
retina in the eye and in the brain. When a shortcoming occurs, it is primarily damage in these places.
Taurine is an amino acid that may be beneficial to some heart problems.
This is especially true for dogs that eat lamb as a protein source with naturally low concentrations of taurine,
rice which also has naturally low concentrations of taurine and some predisposed breeds.
Cats may lack if not enough taurine is present in the diet. The problem is that cats cannot convert
other amino acids to taurine. Most animals can convert other amino acids into taurine, but the cat cannot.
This means that all the taurine the cat needs, must be added.
The vitamins can be given to any small animal, but it is most common in dogs, cats and ferrets.
